Overview - Introduction to Rowing

Objectives: Familiarize students with rowing equipment, basic techniques, how boats move, and environmental awareness while on the water. Provide an introductory level of proficiency to the sport with opportunities to develop teamwork and synchronization skills, while fostering trust and cooperation with teammates. Rowing is a lifesport!

The session will introduce the topics above, with emphasis on the following:
- Overview of rowing equipment and purpose (ergometer, oars, boat types)
- Boat handling on land (carrying, launching, docking)
- Demonstration of proper rowing technique on an ergometer
- Practice basic rowing strokes focusing on technique and posture.
- Intro' to terminology and safety guidelines, emergency procedures
- Coxswain and seats, roles and responsibilities
- Safety protocols and communication skills while rowing.
- Power application and rhythm
Throughout the 9 weeks, it's important to maintain consistency in attendance, dedication to practice, and respect for equipment and teammates. We're excited to bring this session to you!
All registration requirements must be met prior to participation.
The $2200 fee does not include the mandatory Fayette County impact fee of $5 per in county/$25 per out of county participant's residence. The Impact Fee is based on the residency of each registrant in the session. It is collected by Row Georgia and paid to Fayette County Parks and Rec. The Impact Fee amount due will be finalized once individual participant forms are processed and county residency totals are assessed.
Payment is required to be paid in full in advance by the organizing program (no individual payments by participants).
Each participant in the program must complete the following forms to be completed by the participant's parent/legal guardian:
