    Overview

    The Flip Test + Proficiency Assessment is a mandatory evaluation for individuals seeking independent rowing privileges with Row Georgia. Independent rowing privileges are only available through enrollment in one of the following:

    • Annual Membership
    • Alumni Seasonal Rowing
    • Experienced Rower Daily Pass

    What’s Included:

    • Flip Test – Demonstrate your ability to safely capsize and recover in open water.

    • Proficiency Assessment – A USRowing Certified Coach will evaluate your rowing technique, boat handling, and safety awareness.


    Who Should Take the Flip Test?

    • Individuals new to Row Georgia who are applying for an Annual Membership w/Independent Rowing privileges, or a Daily Pass with independent rowing privileges.

    • Returning adult rowers (prior annual or seasonal) who have not rowed with RGA in the last 24 months and are applying or reapplying for an Annual Membership. If you have a flip test on record at Row Georgia, we will accept that. Email the coaches, emails are provided below.  


    Who Should Not Take the Flip Test?

    • New rowers with no prior experience.
      If you're new to rowing, schedule a private lesson before signing up for this evaluation. This assessment is only for experienced rowers applying for Annual, Alumni, or Daily Pass rowing privileges.


    All annual memberships and daily passes must be approved based on space availability, equipment availability, safety considerations, and skill level.

    After completing checkout for the Flip Test + Proficiency Assessment, schedule your evaluation by emailing:

    Feel free to include an overview of your availability for the assessment. We do not conduct assessments between 4:45pm and 7:15pm weekdays, Saturdays between 8am - 10:30am, or M, W, Sat between 6:30am - 8am, as these are typically scheduled programming sessions. 

    Important Notes:

    All rowers are required to complete the registration process. Rowing is a highly regulated sport, but many registration items are one-time tasks, while others may be renewed annually.

    Registration requirements include, but are not limited to:

    • rowgeorgia.com account
    • completed Boathouse Connect profile
    • A valid USRowing membership (required for insurance coverage and optional participation in USRowing-sanctioned events)
    • A signed liability waiver
    • A signed code of conduct
